As part of our invitation to the Finger Lakes Wine Festival from Finger Lakes Wine Country, we were invited to stay at Gathering Hill Farm, a gorgeously restored historic farmhouse.
Located on eight acres of land on the Southeast side of Seneca Lake, this farmhouse rental is a perfect location for you, and your friends and family to make your home base while wine tasting. It’s only a hour and twenty minute drive from Rochester and just ten minutes away from all the restaurants and shops at Watkins Glen. It’s also within walking distance of Ryan Williams winery, an added bonus I discovered while exploring the property.
Gathering Hill Farm was originally built in the early 1800s as a farmhouse, and it’s current owners have maintained this look and feel, without losing modern amenities. When you first walk up to the farm, you notice a fantastic porch, perfect for sipping early morning coffee while looking out over the lake.
Wandering to the back, there are private gardens to explore, various outdoor dining options on the deck, and a patio with Adirondack chairs and a firepit (yes, they have plenty of wood and marshmallow sticks inside and ready for you, they’ve truly thought of everything). Whether you’re looking to relax with a good book while watching the sunset, or want to play bocce in the yard, it’s a perfect oasis.
Inside, there are two dining options, a formal and more casual area, a well-stocked kitchen perfect for preparing your own meals, and two seating areas complete with speaker system and a TV in case you’re more of an indoor person.
When we entered, we were greeted by fresh biscotti, Red Jacket juices, Muranda and Lively Run cheese, Piggery meats, and other local delights, which were perfect snacks for us to enjoy before we headed over to the wine festival, and great for nibbling the next morning.
Just the two of us were spending the night at the farm, but it could hold much more- next time we visit we are definitely going to invite a big group of friends and family! The Gathering Hill Farm has 5 bedrooms and 3 baths, with the possibility of hosting up to 14 people. One bedroom and bathroom is on the first floor in case someone doesn’t want to be upstairs, and one of the bedrooms is a bunk room perfect for kids.
We stayed in the master bedroom at the front of the property, because it had an attached bedroom and a fabulous view of the lake. The king sized mattress was extra comfortable, and there was air conditioning in the bedroom to keep us cool over the warm night.
The bathrooms were fantastic, with everything you could possibly need: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lots of towels, and even a hair dryer (which was good because I had totally forgotten mine).
